Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22, 1985 New York City New York) is well-known for her ability to act across different various genres from the period dramas through thrillers to action-packed films. Johansson was born in New York City, and was raised by an architect father and producer mother. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. From a young age she began to develop a passion for performing and started making commercial auditions around the age seven. She became interested in acting quickly and she enrolled soon after at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. When she was eight, she appeared with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry, and at nine she made her film debut in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson was next seen on screen in Just Cause (1995), after which she made her debut with Manny & Lo - a story of two sisters and orphans, who manage to escape. The Horse Whisperer (2000), in which she played an teen with a defect due to an accident garnered an acclaim from critics. Then in Ghost World 2001 (as the teenager who is a cynical outcast Rebecca) Johansson received even more recognition.
